Characteristics features of brown algae
1. Brown colour is due the presence of the xanthophyll pigment fucoxanthin.
2. Food reserve among these, are in the form of mannitol and laminarian
3. The cell wall is made up of cellulose and alginic acid.
4. Brown algae shows alteration of haploid and diploid generations.
5.There are about 1800 species of these algae. Most are marine and found in the cold water.

✍️Mostly marine, with unicellular or multicellular body.

✍️Cells are eukaryotic, with special type of excretory granules in vesicles.

✍️Chief pigments are chloroophyll a and c, beta carotene, lutein, fucoxanthin, dioanthin and violaxanthin.

✍️Reserve food includes laminarin, mannitol and oils.
