⚫He was the first scientists to classify the element in a systematic manner i.e.

in horizontal row and vertical columns.

⚫Horizontal rows we're called periods and there were 7 periods in Mendleev Periodic table.

⚫ Vertical columns are called groups and there were 8 groups in Mendleev periodic table.

⚫each group up to VII was divided into

A & B subgroups. 'A' subgroup element were called normal element and 'B' subgroup element were called transition element.

⚫ The VIII group consisted of 9 element in three rows. ( Transition metal group)

⚫The element belonging to same group exhibit similar properties.

⚫63 element were known, noble gases were not discovered.

⚫ It was based on atomic weight.
