Meristematic tissue: Meristematic tissue is a plant tissue which shoots the growth of plant.

The three kinds of meristmatic tissues are :

  • Apical Meristem : This tissue shoots the growth of tissue in upward direction. These are present in tips of plants.

  • Intercalary Meristem This shoots the growth in sideways. Present in leaves and internodes at intercalary position.

  • Lateral Meristem : Shoots the growth at downward direction. Located in stems are roots.

Characteristics:

  • the cell divided actively throughout the life.

  • Meristematic cells are self renewal. The new cells are likely to the parent . but they grow mature than parent and slowly differentiate with parent cell.

  • Meristematic tissue has thin wall around.

  • meristematic cells either lack vacoules or they are too small.

  • These cells are living cells.

  • They are not capable of storing food.
