Unlike the solitary Hydra, Obelia is a colonial organism, a much more common lifestyle among the hydrozoans. Each plantlike colony is branched. Each branch terminates in one of two types of polyp. Feeding or nutritive polyps possess tentacles and resemble individual Hydra. These polyps provide nutrients for the entire colony. mark
