Secularism is keeping religious beliefs out of public policy, simple as that, as far as I’m concerned at least. So, its main feature is that decisions with regard to healthcare, governance and so forth need to be made on the basis of evidence and values that are compelling regardless of your metaphysical views. Its main value, then, becomes the formation of policy that respects all equally, by seeking policy that is driven by what we have in common rather than by our differences.
