Explanation:

When the valley floor warms during the day, warm air rises up the slopes of surrounding mountains and hills to create a valley breeze. At night, denser cool air slides down the slopes to settle in the valley, producing a mountain breeze.

Characteristics of Valley breeze

  • During the day, the less dense and warmer air near the ground rises, pushing more air through the valley floor. This soft upslope breeze is referred to as a valley breeze. In the evening and when the sun sets, the air flows in the other direction. This is due to the fact that valleys cool more slowly than higher elevation mountain sides. Similar to this, a valley wind is created when the valley floor rapidly warms up, causing the air to expand and move up the slopes. Thunderstorms can occasionally be brought on by rising currents over the mountains. The slopes are cooled by land-surface radiation at night, which causes colder, denser air to drain.
  • Warm air in a mountain breeze will rise up in a valley breeze as it rises up the sides of the valley.
  • valley: an extended depression in the surface of the Earth. Rivers are most often responsible for draining valleys, which can be found on relatively level plains or in between groups of hills or mountains. Rift valleys are those valleys created by tectonic activity. Gorges are the name given to similar-looking, extremely deep, narrow valleys.
