Colonel Adye was the Chief of Police in Burdock. He was a
dutiful officer who worked conscientiously and according to the demands of the
situation. He responded promptly and fearlessly to Dr. Kemp’s call to arrest
the invisible man.

Adye was courageous and decisive.  He knew capturing Griffin would not be an
easy task, so he had the hounds arranged. 
He did not pay any heed to the risk involved in the task.  His move to overpower Griffin was full of
risk, yet he dared it. He was simple, trusting and humane. He was against the
idea of injuring Griffin by spreading powdered glass on the roads. He had
confidence in his ability to capture Griffin single-handedly, and was shot when
he did so. Readers feel sorry for his death.

Dr. Kemp betrayed Griffin for the sake of the security and safety of society. After reading the newspaper reports about Griffin’s criminal activities, and after hearing his life-story, Kemp concluded Griffin was a threat to the society. He wanted to let loose a reign of terror among people to have his will done. So, to save society from the evil plans of Griffin, Kemp betrayed him
