HERE IS YOUR ANSWER
Mr gilman is introduced in Chapter 18 as the principal of Cambridge School for young ladies. gilman comes across as a person who was sincerely interested in making sure that all his students succeed. he was very helpful and assisted Helen in the preliminary examination. further he also appears to be a bit too overpowering and serious about his students. during the second year, he felt that Helen is overburdened and and may not succeed in the entrance exam for Radcliffe college, and so he reduces or study duration and explain their stay at Cambridge. unfortunately, this lead to Helen leaving Cambridge. this may also seen as a possessive side to his nature but, we cannot deny his generous nature.
