The postmaster was a rude and ill-tempered man. He did not bother about others. He was harsh and did not hesitate to hurt others. He was emotionless and believed in being practical. However, there was a drastic change in his behaviour after he saw Ali’s letter. This was because now his own daughter was unwell and he was anxiously waiting for some news of her. He could realize the sorrow and pain of Ali who had waited for five years for some news from his daughter. He felt guilty for the way he had behaved with Ali in the past.
