The grandafther is very childish and spends a lot of time bathing. He thinks that some day during an earthqauke he will be found in his tub

• This story discusses the famous Assam and Bengal earthquake which occurred in June 1897.
• The grandfather was used to wasting needless time when taking a bath in a tub. He will often sleep there, or splash water for hours like a child.
• As the earthquake jolted the earth, which led to the buildings and houses to fall down to ruins, grandfather ran from the back door for his life, as the front doors had been obscured.
• The family was brought under a wooden cottage and somehow grandfather along with his family manage to move away to Calcutta. Thus, though he was childish, but he was responsible and courageous as well
