Charismatic Authority is a type of Legitimate Authority. Max Weber outlined attractive or Charismatic authority as “Resting on devotion to the exceptional holiness, valiance or exemplary character of a personal person, and of the normative patterns or order disclosed or ordained by him.”

Weber divided legitimate authority into three types: Rational-legal authority is the first type discussed by Weber. The second type of authority, traditional authority, stems from customs, habits and social structures that have long been established. Charismatic authority is the third form of authority.

Both charismatic and transformation management depend on the leader's ability to influence and inspire followers. Transformative and charismatic leaders motivate the person or those around him to be better and to work for the greater good of an organisation.
