Charles Hooper was a strong man, both physically and mentally. If the same accident would have crippled anyone else in his place, he/she would surely have not recovered as miraculously as he did. He might have developed this resilience in the football field. By the dint of his courage, strength, and endurance, not only did he survive the brain injury that left him paralytic, he also used the same strength to overcome his disabilities. As the saying goes, God helps those who help themselves, Hooper had the cooperation and association of his wife, his colleagues and employers, and most importantly Duke's. Thus he successfully emerged from such a fatal accident and its aftermath.
