Chaya's age= x/2

According to the question :-

$x - \frac{x}{2} = 48$

$\frac{2x - x}{2} = 48$

$\frac{x}{2} = 48$

$x = 48 \times 2 = 96$

Hence,

Preeti's age = 96

Chaya's age = 96/2 = 48

Sum of their ages =

$96 + 48 = 144$
