Unit and Dimensions

Answer :

➤ The principle of homogeneity of dimensions is used in checking the correctness of formulae, and also in the derivation of formulae.

Dimensions of LHS :

➙ Pressure (P)

➙ [M¹L‾¹T‾²]

Dimensions of RHS :

➠ ρ × g × H

  • ρ denotes density
  • g denotes acceleration
  • H denotes height

➠ [M¹L‾³] [L¹T‾²] [L¹]

➠ [M¹L‾¹T‾²]

LHS = RHS

Therefore, The given equation is dimensionally correct!

Remember : A dimensionally consistent equation need not be actually an exact or correct equation, but a dimensionally wrong or incorrect equation must be wrong.

Cheers!
