Average speed= Total distance/total time

Total distance= 40m (I presume the value is in meters)

Total time taken= 5 secs (I presume it is in seconds)

Thus avg speed= tot distance/tot time

                          = 40/5

                          = 8 m/s

Therefore the average speed of the cyclist throughout the journey is 8 m/s.
