let x-1 = 0
=> x = 1
now..put the value of x in polynomial
p(x) = x³-x²-(2+√2)x+√2
=> p(1) = 1³-1²-(2+√2)1+√2
=> p(1) = 1-1-2-√2+√2
=> p(1) = 0-2+0
=> p(1) = 2
since p(1) ≠ 0
so (x-1) is not a factor of the p(x) = x³-x²-(2+√2)x+√2
