Hi ,
let p( x ) = 2x² + x - 1
put x = 1/2 in p( x ) ,
p( 1/2 ) = 2 × ( 1/2 )² + 1/2 - 1
= 2/4 + 1/2 - 1
= 1/2 + 1/2 - 1
= 1 - 1
p( 1/2 ) = 0
Therefore ,
1 /2 is a zero of the polynomial p ( x ).
I hope this helps you.

By Putting 1/2 in place of x, we get,
2(1/2)² +1/2 -1 = 0
=> 2(1/4) - 1/2 = 0
=> 1/2 - 1/2 = 0
=> 0 = 0
Hence, 1/2 is a zero of the guven polynomial.
2(1/2)² +1/2 -1 = 0
=> 2(1/4) - 1/2 = 0
=> 1/2 - 1/2 = 0
=> 0 = 0
Hence, 1/2 is a zero of the guven polynomial.
