when x= -2

2x+4= -4+4 =0 ✓

when x= +2

2x+4= 4+4 is not equal to 0

Question:-

=> Check whether -2 and 2 are the zeroes of the polynomial 2x + 4 .

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Solution:-

Given polynomial:-

  • 2x + 4

➠ Taking the value of x = -2 and 2:-

Case I =>

  • p(x) = 2x + 4
  • p(-2) = 2 × (-2) + 4
  • ⠀⠀⠀= -4 + 4
  • ⠀⠀⠀= 0

•°• -2 is the zero of the given polynomial.

Case II =>

  • p(x) = 2x + 4
  • p(2) = 2 × 2 + 4
  • ⠀⠀⠀= 4 + 4
  • ⠀⠀⠀= 8 ( ≠ 0 )

•°• 2 is not the zero of the given polynomial.

Hence :-

  • Only -2 is the zero of the given polynomial.
