Here,

LHS = x(x + 1) + 8

= x² + x + 8

RHS = (x + 2) (x - 2)

= x² - 4

Therefore, x² + x + 8 = x² - 4

x² + x + 8 - x² + 4 = 0

i.e., x + 12 = 0

It is in the form of ax² + bx + c = 0.

Hence, it is not a quadratic equation
