if on putting x= -4 , polynomial will become zero then x+4 is a factor .
${x}^{4} + 6 {x}^{3} - 2x + 8 \\ = ( { - 4)}^{4} + 6( { - 4)}^{3} - 2( - 4) + 8 \\ = 256 - 384 + 8 + 8 \\ = 272 - 384 \\ = - 112 \\ not \: equal \: to \: zero \: hence \: x + 4 \: is \: not \: a \: factor$
