black heart is an internal defect caused by lack of Oxygen and high carbon dioxide levels in the tuber. black heart occurs when the demand for oxygen exceed the supply level
we can control it by following given measures:-
1) avoiding the storage in tightly, good ventilation prevents black heart disease.
2) avoid poorly drained ground.
3) avoid flooded areas
4) avoid extreme temperatures hot / cold.
5) inhibit diffusion of oxygen through tuber.
Where lack of Oxygen occurs and causes Blackheart
1) storage at high temperature (8-10°c) in an airtight container or building with no air renewal for a long period of time
2) storage at low temperatures ( below 2 degree Celsius) in an air tight container, with no possibility of automatic air renewal.
