Explanation:

Given -

  • Chemical formula of oxide of a metal M is MO

To Find -

  • The chemical formula of its chloride and nitrate

Solution -

The Chemical formula of oxide is MO, It means, M has Valency 2 because Oxygen has its Valency 2. So, both the 2 cuts M₂O₂ = MO.

It means, Metal M belongs to 2nd Group (Alkaline Earth metal).

And

Chloride of 2nd Group Element is MCl₂

Because Cl has its Valency 1 and M has Valency 2. So, After Criss-crossing it forms MCl.

And

Nitrate of 2nd Group Element is M(NO3)₂.

Because NO3 has its Valency 1 and M has Valency 2. So, After Criss-crossing it forms M(NO3)₂.
