1) Ethanoic acid is weak acid but it turns blue litmus red.

2) Reaction with Metals: Ethanoic acid reacts with metals like Na, K, Zn etc. to form metal ethanoates and hydrogen gas.

3) Reaction with Carbonates: Ethanoic acid reacts with bicarbonates and carbonates to produce brisk effervescence due to formation of carbon dioxide, CO2.

4) Reaction with Base: Ethanoic acid reacts with sodium hydroxide to form sodium ethanoate and water.

5) Decarboxylation (Removal of CO2): When sodium salt of ethanoic acid, i.e., sodium ethanoate is heated with soda lime (3 parts of NaOH and 1 part of CaO), methane gas is formed. This reaction is known as decarboxylation because a molecule of CO2 is removed from a molecule of acid.

6) Reaction with alcohols: Ethanoic acid reacts with ethanol in presence of concentrated sulphuric acid to form esters which are pleasant fruity smelling compounds.

7) Reduction: Acetic acid, on reduction with lithium aluminium hydride, results in formation of ethanal, which on further reduction gives ethanol.

Hope it helpss.

Chemical properties of Ethanol acid are as follow:-

1. It freezes at 290 K.

2.It boils at 391 K.

3.Pure ethanol acid is also know as Glacial acetic acid.

4.It is soluble in water.

5.It's sour in taste.

6.It changes blue litmus into red.

7.When ethanol acid reacts with base(NaOH) it forms sodium ethanoate and water.

8.When it reacts with carbonate it gives brisk efferverence and CO2 has is liberated. When CO2 is passed through line water it turns milky.
