Group I elements:

  • They consist hydrogen (H), Lithium (Li), Sodium (Na), Potassium (K), Rubidium (Rb) and Caesium (Cs). Note: Hydrogen's chemical properties differ from the rest
  • They are also called "Alkali metals".
  • They are very reactive.
  • All alkali metal compounds are stable, this is because the alkali metals are so reactive.
  • Alkali metals have to be extracted from their ores by electrolysis
  • Alkali metal compounds are usually colourless
  • The hydroxides are strong alkalis
