It is a heavy, silvery-white liquid metal. ... Mercury metal has many uses. Because of its high density it is used in barometers and manometers. It is extensively used in thermometers, thanks to its high rate of thermal expansion that is fairly constant over a wide temperature range.

Abhinav2977: phycal and chemical?

chemically mercury do not stick to the surface of any solid substance.
Physically when mercury is put inside a capillary tube then it makes an obtuse angle with the surface of the capillary tube.
It is used in thermometers because of its low melting point .
