Hi there,

The Kolbe reaction or the Kolbe Schmidt reaction is also known as carboxylation. In this reaction, when the phenol reacts with carbon dioxide in the presence of alkaline medium like NaOH, then it provides sodium salicylate. After the acidification of sodium salicylate, it gets converted into salicylic acid as the final product.

Hope it helped.
