To the given solution add Pb(NO3)2, if the white ppt. Of Pb(OH)2 dissolves then the solution is NaOH and if remains insoluble then the solution is of NH4OH.

Magnesium sulphate gives a white precipitate with excess ammonium hydroxide solution.

We know that ammonia solution is ammonium hydroxide. When added in small quantity(dropwise), a reddish-brown precipitate of Fe(OH)3 is formed. This precipitate is insoluble in excess of ammonia solution.
