1 Ethyne is an unsaturated hydrocarbon having a carbon-carbon triple bond. so, when it is bubbled through reddish bromine water the latter gets decolorized. Ethane does not react with bromine water as it is a saturated hydrocarbon.

2 Ethyne forms a pale yellow precipitate of silver acetylide with an ammoniacal silver nitrate solution, but ethene does not show any change with this reagent.

3 Ethyne gives a reddish brown precipitate of copper acetylide with ammoniacal copper(I) chloride solution .ethane does not react with this solution.
