Correct Question:

Gun Powder is a mixture of Potassium Nitrate,Sulphur and Charcoal. How will you separate it into its constituents?

Answer:

Separation of Potassium Nitrate

•Mix gun powder with water, the potassium nitrate in the mixture will get dissolved and the remaining residual is sulphur and charcoal. An aqueous solution of KNO3 is formed

•Now heat the solution of potassium nitrate

•Pure Potassium Nitrate is obtained

★Separation of sulphur

•Add the residual to Carbon Disulphate, sulphur gets dissolved

•Charcoal is the residual

•Heat Sulphur-Carbon Disulphate solution to obtain sulphur

•Charcoal is also obtained as a residual

Gun powder is a mixture of sulphur ,Charcoal &pottasium Nitrate

When water is added to ,mixture potassium nitrate dissolves The mixture is then filtered .The filtarate pottassium nitrate solution while the residue is a mixture of sulphur and charcoal. The filtrate is evaporated on sand bath to obtain pottasium nitrate back .When carbon disulphide is added to residue sulphur dissolves When the mixture is filtered the filtrate is sulphur solution while the residue is charcoal leaving it open evaporates the sulphur solution .Carbon Disulphate then evaporates sulphur crystals are left behind
