✯ Chemistry Question:-

An element has cube type unit cell having one atom on each corner of the cube and two atoms on one of its diagonals. If the volume of the unit cell is 24 × 10-²⁴ cm³ and density of the element 7.2 gram/cm³. Calculate the atoms present in 100 gram of the element.

Answer:

Now each corner atom is a part of 8 unit cells so it contributes 1/8 to 1 unit cell. Now we have 8corners so number of atoms= 1/8 x 8=1 atom.

Now each atom along the body diagonal wholly belongs to the cube so it contributes 1 to 1 cell. Now we have 4 body diagonals and hence the number of atoms=2 x 1x 4= 8 atoms.

So total number of atoms= 8+1= 9 atoms. However I think such a unit cell is not possible.

Thats all man..!
