2) Combustion has three types-

A.rapid

e.g. Burning of wax in a candle

B.spontaneous

e.g. Burning of white phosphorus on its own at room temperature

C. explosive

e.g. Burning of fire crackers

3) a.Combustible substances

- Substances that catch fire easily and burn easily are called combustible substances

- e.g. Paper, Clothes, Wood, LPG

Non- combustible substances

- Substances that do not catch fire easily and do not burn are called non - combustible substances

- e.g. Wood

b. Exhaustible Resources

- Those resources which gets depleted after the continuous use of humans.

- Take millions of years to renew again

- Fossil Fuels like coal, petroleum etc.

In -Exhaustible Resources

- Resources which cannot get depleted even after continuous use of humans

- e.g. Tidal energy, biogas etc.

4) The visible gaseous part of a fire is known as flame and it is caused by highly exothermic reaction taking place in a thin zone

5) There are three regions of a flame-

A. Innermost zone

Zone which is formed just around wick of candle flame as candle burns. It is the dark zone of flame and least hot .

B. Middle zone

Zone which is moderately hot with limited oxygen supply. It is the luminous zone and major part of the flame .

C. Outermost zone

Zone of complete combustion. It is non - luminous and hottest zone .
