Answer:

a) The common anion is the Nitrate ion because nitrate produces nitrogen when it gets decomposed. This nitrogen gas is brown in colour.

b) X on heating melts and gives off only one gas which re - lights a glowing splint. So we can confirm the the cation of x must be either Sodium or Potassium.

c) The metal ion presnt in Y is the Lead ion.

\mathrm{Pb(NO_3)_2} \ \ \ \longrightarrow ^{\Delta} \ \  \mathrm{PbO + NO_2 + O_2}

d) Turning mosit red litmus paper blues confirms its a base. And we know that Sodium hydroxide with ammonium ion gives Ammonia. So Z must have the Ammonium as its cation.

e)

1) \mathrm{KNO_3 + H_2 SO_4} \ \ \ \longrightarrow_{\mathrm{<200^{\circ} C}} \ \ \ \mathrm{KHSO_4 + HNO_3}

2) \mathrm{2Pb(NO_3)_2} \ \ \ \longrightarrow ^{\Delta} \ \  \mathrm{2PbO + 4NO_2 + O_2}

3) \mathrm{Cu + 4HNO_3} \ \ \ \longrightarrow  \ \  \mathrm{Cu(NO_3)_2 +2NO_2 + H_2O}

Hope this helps : )
