solids are rigid ,don't diffuse,not comptessible and liquids are not rigid,diffuse,not compressible and gasses are not rigid, highly compressible and diffuse.

the level of water remains same because the sugar crystals get in the spaces between the particles

oxygen is called gas because it has nor fixed volume neither fixed shape and it is highly compressible
