when in a journal question there is "cheque received but not deposited", OR there is "cheque received" then on later date there's "cheque deposited" — either ways they're saying that you received the cheque, you kept it, THEN you deposited. so, the former will be treated as cash.

so the answer to your question is—

cheque received but not deposited:

cash ac _dr

to (who gave the cheque) ac

(being cheque received but not deposited.)

then while depositing:

bank ac _dr

to cash ac

(being cheque received from.... deposited to bank.)
