Cherrapunji and mowsynram receive more than 1100 mm 08 rainfall ,shillog located only 1000 mm of rainfall what could be the reason

Answer:

Cherrapunji or Mawsynram is on the Windward side of the Khasi hills. It receives rain from the South West Monsoon Bay of Bengal Branch as it is in the Pathway of these winds. Hence because of the high hills it receives heavy relief rain.

Also, the Purvanchal (Eastern part of Himalayas towards Myanmar) Block the part of the Monsoon winds, forcing the wind to take a sharp turn and go over the North Eastern region of India, where all the water gathered by these winds is released.
