Answer

x = - 1 + 3i and - 1 - 3i

Solution

 {x}^{2}  + 2x + 10

This expression is not factorable

We can solve using quadratic formula

x =  \frac{ -b ± \sqrt{ {b}^{2} - 4ac } }{2a}

Standard form is

a {x}^{2}  + bx + c

So,

x =  \frac{ -2 ± \sqrt{ {2}^{2} - 4 \times 1 \times 10 } }{2 \times 1}  \\ \\   = \frac{ -2 ± \sqrt{ 4 - 40 } }{2}   \\  \\  = \frac{ -2 ± \sqrt{  - 36 } }{2}   \\  \\  = \frac{ -2 ± \sqrt{36 \times  - 1 }}{2}  \\  \\  = \frac{ -2 ± 6\sqrt{  - 1 }}{2}   \\  \\  =  \frac{2( - 1±3 \sqrt{ - 1}) }{2}  \\  \\  = - 1±3 \sqrt{ - 1}  \\  \\  = - 1±3i
