Crossing over takes place during meiosis 1 at pachytene in which the homologus chromosomes exchange the genetic material so in the next stage of prophase 1 ie. diplotene the synaptonimal complex starts dissoluting and the two homologus chromosomes separates except at the site of crossing over which gives rise to X shaped structure called chiasmata.....
