Children under 14 should not be allowed to use social media for numerous reasons. A child’s receptive mind incorporates any idea, suggestion or information without judging it. So it is important that children are exposed to stuff that gives knowledge, enhances their thinking ability and shapes up their perception. Social media has pros and cons. It helps to stay connected to people, give a peek into what’s happening around the world. On the other hand, it makes one self-obsessed. The attraction of how many likes one’s display picture received holds more importance than one’s grades. The focus on studies is gone. It also makes one reserved. Children stop communicating with their family which unnecessarily creates a void in relationships. Getting addicted to social media affects one’s mental health. Not every content available on social media is good. The portrayal of violence or something indecent leaves a lasting impression on young minds and gets attached to their developing perception. So it’s good if children under 14 stay away from social media.
