Children who skip breakfast are heavier than those who eat breakfast. A good breakfast will
improve learning. Cereals with high fibre can stop you feeling tired. Missing out on breakfast
could lead you to choosing to eat the wrong foods for lunch.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. During the night your body goes into fast mode.
Preparing a healthy breakfast breaks the fast. It also provides nutrients and glucose to your body.
Glucose is an energy source for our bodies. It is broken down and absorbed from the
carbohydrates that we eat; Carbohydrates are foods like pasta, rice and bread.
During the night when your body is fasting, the level of glucose drops. Your body then uses
glycogen that is stored in muscle and liver tissue. When this is used up your body breaks down
the fatty acids which produce the acids we need.
A good breakfast provides our body with a sufficient proportion of the day’s total nutrient
intake. A good breakfast meal provides us with foliate, iron, B vitamins and fibre. In order to
keep up the vitamin and mineral levels, we need to top up our body’s nutritional needs.
It is also advised to have a balanced diet for healthy living.
