The ‘Chipko Movement’ started inspired by the true story of Amrita Devi Bishnoi. She was a brave lady who showed defiance against the cutting down of tree by the men of kings.
During her fight to protect the nature her head was severed. Her daughters were devastated to see their`s mother fate and they too clunged to the trees before they too met with the same fate.
Angered by the events the neighboring villagers too supported the movement and clunged on to the trees even as the massacre continued. In the movement to save the trees more than 300 people laid down their lives for going against the order of the king.
The king soon realized his mistake and felt ashamed. He immediately tendered apology to the community of Bishnoi and even passed an order to stop chopping of the trees and even hunting of wild animals in and around the Bishnoi locality. He ensured who ever found defying his order would be severely punished .
