In chemistry, a molecule or ion is called chiral (/kaɪˈræl/) if it cannot be superposed on its mirror image by any combination of rotations and translations.

Compounds which are non-superimposable on their mirror images are optically active. These molecules are called chiral molecule. All four valencies of chiral carbon are satisfied by different atoms or group of atoms.
