Chloride of a metal(X) (which is used to make coins) when exposed to sunlight, turns grey from white. Name the type of reaction and identify X.

THE X  IS  SILVER CHLORIDE.

When Silver Chloride is exposed to light to form Silver and Chloride.

= 2 AgCl ⇒  2 Ag + Cl₂

Photo chemical reaction takes place.Here the metallic chloride which is used to make coins is silver chloride.

When silver chloride exposed to sunlight it decomposes to chlorine gas and silver metal . In this process the white colour of silver metal turns from white to grey .
