Chlorine ion is bigger than argon atom. Why?

Cl ion is bigger than Ar atom because simple Cl atom has 7 electrons in its outermost shell but when it attain a noble gas configuration it has 8 e- in its outermost orbit so the size of this atom increases as it attain noble gas configuration.
