Chlorine is prepared in the laboratory by
treating manganese dioxide (MnO2,) with
aqueous hydrochloric acid according to the
reaction
4HCl(aq) + MnO2,(s)
→ 2H2O( 1) + MnCl2(aq) + Cl2(g)
How many gram of HCl react with 5.0 g of manganese dioxide ?
(At. wt. of Mn = 55)
(1) 2.12 g
(2) 44.24 g
(3) 8.4 8
(4) 3.65 g

MnO2 = 55+32=87 gm

form eqn 87 gm MnO2 reacts with 4x36.5 gm of HCl

5gm of MnO2 reacts with how much amount of hcl?

=5x4x36.5/87 =8.39 gm

option ( 3) is correct

dattahari09: thank you
