CORRECT QUESTION :

Chlorine occurs in nature in two isotopic form with masses 35 u and 37 u in the ratio of 3 : 1. Calculate average atomic mass of chlorine atom on the basis of their data.

ANSWER  :

We will use  Average Atomic Mass Concept here.

✍️ Average Atomic Mass : The atomic mass of such an element is the average of the atomic masses of the naturally occurring isotopes of the element along with their relative abundances. This is called average atomic mass.

SOLUTION :

 Average atomic mass of Chlorine =  \frac{35*3\:+\:37*1}{3\:+\:1}

Average atomic mass of Chlorine = 35.5 u

NOTE -There is no unit of Average Atomic mass but we express it in a.m.u That means 1/12th of carbon atom is subjected as 1 u.
