Answer:

Given, Percentage of Cl with At. mass 35 = 75

Then Percentage of Cl with At. mass 37 =25

Avg At. mass = 3/4 ×(35) + 1/4 × (37)

= 26.25+9.25=35.5 (ANS)

Solution:

From the relative abundance 3:1 ,it is understood that out of 4 chlorine atoms, 3 atoms have mass 35 and 1 has mass 37.

Therefore, the average atomic mass of chlorine

 = \frac{3 \times 35 + 1 \times 37}{4} = 35.5
