cost of x chocolate pastry = Rs 26x

cost of 1 fruit pastry = Rs 18

cost of x fruit pastry =RS 18y

total cost = Rs 500

Equation formed would be

Rs 26x + Rs 18 y = Rs 500

Using trial and error method ,

x= 4 and y = 22 , then

26 * 4 + 18 * 22 = Rs 500

104 + 396 = 500

500=500

∴ number of chocolate pastries bought = 4

number of fruit pastries bought = 22
