WHAT TO SEE:
Assam is a huge state; so, if you are on a short trip, you can only cover a part of the state. The longer the trip, the greater the fun.
The main attractions:
- Kaziranga National Park- A must-visit destination for all nature l(o)vers. Watch out for the one-horned rhino, or if you get lucky, you might even spot a tiger. There is an abundance of birds and deer. Take a jeep safari or an elephant tour of the national park. Open from November to April.
- Tea Garden Tours- Visit a tea garden and soak up all the greenery. Tour the factory to know how the tea gets from the estate to your teacup. Stay in a beautiful tea estate bungalow made by the British. Be pampered in the ‘bagaan’ style.
- Digboi Oil Refinery- Visit one of the oldest oil refineries in the world. The museum gives insight into how things were, more than a century ago. The refinery continues to be fully functional today.
