Answer:

\large{Area..of..the..square=sideXside}

\large{area=(1.2X1.2)m}

\large{area=1.44msq}

The individual values have 2 significant figures so we have to round off the result into 2 significant figures

which is

\</strong><strong>b</strong><strong>l</strong><strong>u</strong><strong>e</strong><strong>{</strong><strong>area</strong><strong>=</strong><strong>1</strong><strong>.</strong><strong>4</strong><strong>m</strong><strong>s</strong><strong>q</strong><strong>}

The area of the square with the correct number of significant figures is 1.44 m² ( option-A).

Given: the length of the side of the square, s = 1.2m

To Find: the area of the square, A.

Solution:

To calculate A, the formula used:

  • A square has four sides, and all these sides are of equal length.
  • Area of square = (side of the square)²
  • A =  s²

Applying the above formula:

A = s²

As the length of the side of square is 1.2 m

Area  = ( 1.2)²

    A  = 1.2 x 1.2

         = 12 x 12 / 100

         = 144 / 100

         = 1.44

      A = 1.44 m²

 Area = 1.44 m²

Hence, the area of the square with the correct number of significant figures is 1.44 m².
