The resistance of filament of 60W and 100W operating at 220 Volts is R₁ and R₂ respectively.

To check : which option is correct ?

(i) R₁ > R₂

(ii) R₁ = R₂

(iii) R₁ = 0 , R₂ = 0

solution : power delivered to an appliance of resistance, R is given by, P = V²/R

so, R = V²/P

so resistance of 1st filament, R₁ = V²/P₁

= (220)²/60

resistance of 2nd filament, R₂ = V²/P₂

= (220)²/100

R₁/R₂ = {(220)²/60}/{(220)²/100}

= 100/60 = 5/3

⇒R₁/R₂ = 5/3

it is clear that R₁ > R₂

Therefore the correct option is option (i).
